Interview with the intriguing K N Lee

Bee L. Kirk

When did you know writing was your passion?

K. N. Lee

I knew that I wanted to be a writer since childhood. Creating characters and worlds has been a passion of mine that will never fade.

Bee L. Kirk

A lot of authors I’ve spoken with have felt the same way, including myself.

How many books have you published?

K N Lee

Right now, I have four books published. The Chronicles of Koa: Netherworld is an urban fantasy that centers around a half-blood on a mission to break her mother’s curse. Thicker Than Blood is a paranormal collection. Wicked Webs and Empty Your Heart are poetry collections.

Bee L. Kirk

You’ve been busy, are you self-published? Do you have a literary agent?

K N Lee

I am currently self-published through Amazon and Barnes & Noble, however, I am on a quest to finding a literary agent to represent my fantasy trilogy, Rise of the Flame.

Bee L. Kirk

I wish you the best in that. Having accomplished so much in such a short amount of time, I was wondering how old you were?

K N Lee

I am 27.

 Bee L. Kirk

Awww, you’re still a baby. I think you’re going to have an amazing career.

What genres do you read/write?

K N Lee

I enjoy reading fantasy, horror, sci-fi, classic British and French literature, and historical fiction. Most of my stories are fantasy, sci-fi, and horror.

Bee L. Kirk

I would never’d imagined one of your writing genres as horror. I guess the old homage is true about not judging a book by it’s cover (smile)

Do you have any events coming up?

K N Lee

I will be at the World Fantasy Convention in Brighton, UK October 31st through November 3rd. I am also releasing the sequel to The Chronicles of Koa called Lyrinian Blade this December. Yes, there will be parties, blog tours, and prizes. Check

www.thechroniclesofkoa.com

for updates.

 Bee L. Kirk

How do you come up with your book ideas?

K N Lee

Most of my ideas come from my dreams. I keep a dream journal by my bed and each night I will literally wake up and jot down stories. This is why I have chronic insomnia!

Bee L. Kirk

I keep telling myself to do the same thing but I keep forgetting. I’m going to go and put a journal by my bed, right now.

Is there a message you try to relate through your writing?

K N Lee

I try to steer from anything cliché and formulaic. I may take a worn out trophe and spin it on its head, making it my own. I grew up reading Anne Rice, and I believe that she has the best vampire lore, so, when I created my vampires, I took it into an entirely different direction, and I created new species and creatures. I’d like to convey the message that not everything is what it seems…especially in my writing.

Bee L. Kirk

Who is your favorite character from one of your novels and why?

K N Lee

Lilae is my favorite character. She is the heroine of my soon-to-be released fantasy trilogy, Rise of the Flame. She encompasses all of my fears, doubts, and even experiences from my childhood, and takes those things and uses them to her advantage. She is one badass heroine! Aside from her, Halston, from The Chronicles of Koa is my other favorite. Blonde, British, clever, and a techy genius, he is my perfect man. Too bad he isn’t real… Ha!

Bee L. Kirk

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

ImageK N Lee

I see myself traveling the world with a book deal under my belt, perhaps a tv show or movie based on one of my stories, and a cozy cottage in England, Scotland, or Ireland. One thing that will always remain the same is that I will always write new stories, no matter where I am.

Bee L. Kirk

What kind of music do you listen to?

K N Lee

I listen to classical, Celtic, and movie soundtracks. I also enjoy Euro & indie rock, such as Coldplay, Portishead, Royksopp, and Imogen Heap. What do I listen to literally every day? Traditional Celtic/Gaelic music such as Enya, Clannad, Loreena Mckennit, and Hayley Westenra.

Bee L. Kirk

What is your writing process like?

K N Lee

My writing process starts with a dream, or nightmare. I take a character and let them lead the way. Most of the time I am not even sure where the story is going, but that is the beauty of the writing journey. My characters have the power, I simply wield the pen. My stories are very character driven, however, I am not opposed to utilizing outlines and jot lists.

Bee L. Kirk

How important has social media been to your success?

K N Lee

Extremely important. I remember when I thought that Twitter was silly, nonsensical, and just a way to be publicly vain. Ha! How wrong I was! I am so glad that I gave it a chance and was introduced to the magical world of indie authors. Twitter, Facebook, blogs and Linked In are critical to an author’s success. You know what publishers and agents like to see? They like to see an already established author platform. That means that one must gain a strong presence in the social media community.

B L. Kirk

If you weren’t a writer, what would you be doing?

K N Lee

If I wasn’t a writer, I would either be a children’s doctor, artist, or teacher in a faraway country.

Bee L. Kirk

Do you believe in ghost? Why or Why not?

K N Lee

Oh boy. This is an interesting question. I am not sure. I had an experience as a child that convinced me that they were real, but as an adult, we try to rationalize things and now I am not certain. To cope with that experience, I’d like to think that there is another explanation. It’s just easier than thinking that there is a paranormal entity watching me. *shivers*

Bee L. Kirk

Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with me. I look forward to reading your work and becoming a fan. Best wishes to you!

I know how to Restart the Government Shutdown

It’s yours…

I’ve written my entire life, minus the first few days after my birth. I love to write, and share My opinions. No harm, now foul because everybody has one or at least they should. The wonderful thing about opinions is the fact that they are all original. Now your opinion may sound like someone else’s but it’s not. It came from your experiences, your trials, and life through your eyes. There’s not another human on this earth who has observed  all the sights and sounds that you have. No other soul has participated in every conversation you’ve been a part of, ect. Therefore, your opinion and his opinion and her opinion and my opinion are all organic, give or take.

It’s not personal…

So here’s my opinion on why Democrats and Republicans don’t agree….on anything.

Red and Blue, Blue and Red, Donkey, Elephant, Left, Right, Wealthy, Poor, Middle Class, Man or Woman, Educated, Uneducated, Religious or not…Black or White?

They don’t and won’t agree because each party believes and comes from different places, backgrounds and levels of knowledge. Neither nor either being wrong or right. So why don’t they just agree to disagree and agree to do what’s best for mankind, you know, the thing that would benefit people the most.

Because that would bring them back to square 1, which is no where.

Walks of Life..

How can a child who’s never had a new pair of shoes, is being raised by his grand parents and sees crackheads on a daily basis believe he/she will one day go to Harvard? If they’ve never been exposed to something, how can they know it exist? If no one tells them that they can achieve great things and this is how to reach that goal, how do they know what to do?

I have another question…If I have never been judged by the color of my skin or texture of my hair, how can I know what it’s like to be discriminated against. If I’ve never had to worry about getting a job because somebody knows somebody who knows somebody who will hire me whether I finish college or not, why would I care about the employment line?

My opinion is that every Democrat and Republican should spend a day in the shoes of the people they DON”T represent. Live the lives of the people they don’t fight for. Find out why they are passionate about what they believe. Listen to what their reality is. Step from behind your, ‘I’m right, their not’, wall. Give change a chance. We are all the same and different, which is a beautiful thing.

Your different makes my different, novel.

There is an answer to our problems but it lies the midst of an uncomfortable realm which is called someone else’s reality.

Step back and then step up. This is the land of the Brave, we can do this. There’s always a solution or there would be no problems.

Just a Thought…

***Book Reveiw*** for Women R Stupid & Men R the Reason

Really?

Women are Stupid?
Okay, Steven Barthell, you better have something good to back that up.
“And Men R the Reason,”…okay, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

This debut novel touches on some very intricate and touchy subjects. Of course with a title like that, one can’t really pass it up. So, my next question is, ”Will the title live up to the substance contained inside the pages and chapters?”

I am able to report with a resounding YES, it does. Although, this book speaks to a lot of the problems the black community faces, there’s advice and knowledge for all races. The author of this book gives you examples from his own life which shows a vulnerability to reach out and connect to his reader.

“Women R Stupid & Men R The Reason,” has well placed moments of laughter, giving you the opportunity to reflect on some of your own experiences. The “LNU” chapter made me laugh out load for about 5 minutes straight. This is a University whose attendance has exploded within the past decade, unfortunately. You have to read the book to get more information on admittance.

I would definitely recommend this book and highly anticipate the follow up book, “Sex, Love and Pain.”

***Book REVIEW***

‘Girlfriends Secrets’ by Author Charmaine Galloway

I have always loved reading books, but they have to catch and keep my attention. If they don’t, I will put it to the side and pick it up when I have nothing else to do. I don’t have a specific genre, just as long as it’s thought provoking and entertaining. So when Author Charmaine Galloway asked if I would read and give a review of her book, I was more than happy to be a part of her experience, but a little sceptical. I have read tons of books that flow into the stereotypical, angry black woman, cheating black man, revenge-in-the-end, type of books. I was really hoping this wouldn’t be the same.   As I began reading the storyline and learning about the different characters, I started to want to know more, even before they were fully developed; but I was patient. After reading each line in every chapter, taking in all the little nuances about the lives of the very relatable characters, I was hooked.

My Comfort Zone

Once I felt comfortable enough to trust the author, I couldn’t stop thinking about “Girlfriends Secrets”. Even when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about reading. I would patiently wait for my son’s bedtime, so I could delve back into the lives of her characters while he was falling asleep next to me.   Author, Charmaine Galloway, did an excellent job of making you care about each of the characters, even though at times you didn’t want to. Alisha, Brittany, and Tyra are all different and distinguishable, but unforgettable. Don’t do yourself an injustice and think you know what this book will be about, because you don’t. “Never saw it coming,” is what I kept repeating to myself.Charmaine Galloway and her creative mind is one to follow.

Allow Me To Introduce You…

My 1st Book…

I began working on my, now finished book, ‘The City of the Guardians: Introducing Alex Honor’ almost 4 years ago..Ikr…4 years. It’s a long but inspiring story of why it seems I took 4 years to complete a book. This link will catch you up…http://beelkirk.com/how_it_began

Ok, now that you are caught up, you understand why I feel this book is something that I was meant to do.

I’m Anxious…

I want the world to know about this book and it’s message RIGHT NOW. Patience, I have to remind myself that anything worth having is worth waiting for. So, I will continue my endless effort of emailing, blogging, calling and telling people my books story. I say endless because I will never stop telling the story.

The Entire World…

My publisher asked me who my target audience was and I knew he was going to ask this. So, I told him the truth. EVERYbody. The entire world has experienced a nudge or quiet whisper. Everyone has experienced that little voice that says, ‘Don’t go there today or slow down’. Everyone……

The City of the Guardians gives you the opportunity to see what those little whispers and nudges look like and what they really think about us.

REVIEW FOR WAR ANGLES BY KEITH KAREEM WILLIAMs

My Observation…

You know, I wasn’t very cognizant of what to expect by looking at the cover of War Angels. I had seen it on FB plenty of times, read some excerpts and knew a little about the Author.  I eventually asked Keith Kareem Williams to be a guest on The Honey Hour (www.DFWiradio.com) and he obliged.
He was a wonderful guest, answering all my questions with a thorough sense of why I was asking them.
Needless to say, it was one of the best interviews I have ever done. I knew I had to read what this masterful conversationalist had to say, so I went to http://www.amazon.com/War-Angel-ebook/dp/B00E6TWRNE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378183551&sr=8-1&keywords=keith+kareem+williams & purchased the e-Book for my kindle @ $4.99, and then my reading life took a turn.
The Review…
I wanted to read War Angels because I support Indie Authors, like myself and because he had given me an hour of his life. I didn’t expect to be entranced by the storyline, characters, hidden secrets or overall thought process it took to come up with a story like this.
The story starts off with an eruption of excitement and danger; I didn’t know why, which kept me glued to the book. This was the first book I had ever read on my phone (kindle app) and I kept it close to me so I could sneak in a chapter or two when I wasn’t chasing my two year old around the house or writing.
LENOX…
Lenox, ok, his name is so fitting. He is one of the main characters and delivers in more ways than you can imagine. War Angels is not a total Erotica book, there are erotic parts but they don’t take you away from the basis of the story, which is love, lies, deceit, danger, redemption & a little something you’re not expecting ( I don’t want to give it away).
War Angels by Keith Kareem Williams will leave you gasping for air and only hoping to find it at the end of the book. I am optimistic there will be a part 2 because there is an abundance of more to give.
